5.1.1. Nonlinear Adaptive Region

Use the Nonlinear Adaptive Region to change the mesh during the solution to improve precision without incurring significant computational penalties. It enables you to control remeshing on selected regions of your model for specific load steps, when it is active, based on a specified remeshing criterion.

This feature is useful for nonlinear problems, especially large deformation problems, that experience convergence difficulties or accuracy issues because of elemental distortions. However, it is also useful for cases where large deformation is turned off but requires mesh adaptation to better capture the physics and achieve a more accurate solution.

See the Nonlinear Mesh Adaptivity Usage Considerations section of the Nonlinear Adaptivity Analysis Guide for more information about analysis instances where this functionality might be beneficial.
