1.8. Transmission Error Results

Create a Coordinate System for transmission error calculation for the driving and driven gears as follows:

  1. Expand the Model branch in the Project tree and right-click Coordinate Systems

  2. From the menu, select Insert and then Coordinate System.

  3. In the Details panel, under Origin, set Define By to Global Coordinates.

  4. Define two sets of Coordinate Systems as shown in the table below:

    NameOriginDirectional Vector
    X(mm)Y(mm)Z(mm)X AxisY AxisZ Axis
    Driving_CM0300{1,0,0}{0,1,0}{0,0,1}
    Driven_CM75300{1,0,0}{0,1,0}{0,0,1}

Create a user-defined Marker for driving gear body as follows:

  1. Select the Motion branch in the Project tree.

  2. In the Motion ribbon, select Body and then Marker.

  3. Rename the new object as Marker_Driving.

  4. In the Details panel, under Scope, set the Scoping Method to Geometry Selection.

  5. Using the Body selection tool (CTRL+B), select the body of the driving gear object (see below).

  6. In the Details panel, under Scope, click Apply in the Geometry field.

  7. In the Details panel, under Definition, set the Coordinate System to Driving_CM (see below).

Create a user-defined Marker for driven gear body as follows:

  1. Select the Motion branch in the Project tree.

  2. In the Motion ribbon, select Body and then Marker.

  3. Rename the new object as Marker_Driven.

  4. In the Details panel, under Scope, set the Scoping Method to Geometry Selection.

  5. Using the Body selection tool (CTRL+B), select the body of the driving gear object (see below).

  6. In the Details panel, under Scope, click Apply in the Geometry field.

  7. In the Details panel, under Definition, set the Coordinate System to Driven_CM (see below).

Create a Function Expression for the Transmission Error as follows:

  1. Select the Motion branch in the Project tree.

  2. In the Motion ribbon, select Sub_Entity and then Function Expression.

  3. Rename the new Function Expression as Function_Expression_TE.

  4. In the Details panel, enter the Function Expression as AY(p1) + AY(p2)*(40/17).

  5. In the Details panel, in the Argument List field, click Tabular Data.

  6. In the Argument List dialog, click the   button to add arguments as follows:

    Argument NameArgument
    p1Marker_Driving
    p2Marker_Driven
  7. In the Details panel, under Attachments External Gears, click Apply.

Create a FCustom Result for the Transmission Error as follows:

  1. Select the Solution branch in the Project tree.

  2. In the Motion ribbon, select Custom Result.

  3. In the Details panel, under Definition, set Function Expression to Function_Expression_TE.

  4. Set Unit Name to Angle.

  5. Click Solve on the Home ribbon.
