Several hyperelastic constitutive models can be used to model the large deformation behavior of elastic materials. However, it is sometimes difficult to select an appropriate hyperelastic model and the parameters to adequately match the behavior of the material. The curve-fitting process fits the hyperelastic constitutive model parameters to a set of experimental data using a least-squares minimization.
Curve-fitting is relatively simple, but certain conditions can affect the accuracy of the resulting constitutive model. The constitutive model should therefore be compared with experimental data to ensure that it adequately reproduces the material behavior over the actual range of deformation.
