DesignModeler Application Parameter Publishing

The DesignModeler application publishes its parameters directly to Ansys Workbench upon their creation. Additionally, you may continue to edit design parameter values in the DesignModeler application after it has published them to Workbench. This behavior is different than most other applications, but it allows the DesignModeler application users the flexibility of modifying parameters without having to toggle back and forth between Workbench and the DesignModeler application's editor.

Any changes made in the DesignModeler application will be reflected in the Workbench parameter manager after the next evaluation, which occurs during any generate, or toggle of a parameter manager pane in the DesignModeler application.

The DesignModeler application’s parameters are not filtered by the Parameter Key property of the geometry cell in the project schematic. Any design parameter created in DesignModeler will immediately appear in the project schematic’s parameter table.

If an .agdb file is selected as a source geometry file and has not yet been opened, its parameters will not be published until the DesignModeler application's editor is opened or until the geometry is accessed by a downstream consumer.

Specific to SpaceClaim:

Parameters in SpaceClaim are known as Group Dimensions. Parameter publishing within Workbench differs depending on how SpaceClaim is connected to the Geometry system (Addin mode or as an External CAD system).

Addin Mode Parameter Publishing  —  When parameters are created, deleted, or renamed, the Parameter Set in Workbench is updated immediately. When parameter values are changed from within SpaceClaim, the values in Workbench are not updated until the Update Parameters command is executed from the SpaceClaim Prepare tab.

  • SpaceClaim Model Opened in SpaceClaim: All parameters are published and promoted automatically (Geometry Editor Mode)

  • SpaceClaim Model Opened in DesignModeler: Parameters must be promoted from DesignModeler (External CAD Mode)

  • SpaceClaim Model Opened in Meshing/Mechanical: All parameters are published and promoted automatically (Geometry Editor Mode)

External CAD (Plugin) Mode Parameter Publishing  —  Parameters are not automatically published when SpaceClaim is connected to the Geometry system as an external CAD system. All parameter promotion must be manually done within the host application.

  • SpaceClaim Model Opened in DesignModeler: Parameters must be promoted from DesignModeler (External CAD Mode)

  • SpaceClaim Model Opened in Meshing/Mechanical: Parameters must be promoted from Meshing/Mechanical (External CAD Mode). The published parameters will only be visible in the Geometry Properties pane when SpaceClaim is connected to the Geometry system as an external CAD system.

Basic Geometry Options

When the Publish All Parameters property is set to No, all parameters are imported to the DesignModeler application but not published. When the Publish All Parameters property is set to Yes, all parameters are published to Workbench during the next update of the CAD source. Afterwards, you may unpublish specific parameters by unchecking the corresponding boxes.
