4.3. Using Coupled Walls with the Gap Model

When using the gap model to simulate flow through narrow gaps that open or close over time (such as in a valve or rotary pump), you can enable the use of coupled walls (both the walls and the shadows) when creating a gap region:

  1. Enable beta feature access (as described in Introduction)

  2. Enable the gap model by using the following text command:

    define gap-model enable?

  3. Enable the inclusion of coupled walls in the gap face zone list by using the following text command:

    define gap-model advanced-options include-coupled-walls?

The coupled wall zones are then available for selection from the Face Zones selection list in the Gap Definition group box of the Gap Model dialog box.

Note:  A coupled wall separates two fluid cell zones, and the wall zone is associated with one of the cell zones and the shadow zone with the other. You must be sure to select the appropriate boundary zone from the Face Zones list in the Gap Model dialog box, otherwise the fluid cells that are marked for the gap region will be on the wrong side of the coupled wall. You can open the Wall dialog box for the wall zone or shadow zone to view the associated Adjacent Cell Zone.
