Symmetry

With the symmetry condition, you can enforce a mirrored symmetry on one or more faces in the same plane.

  • For fluid physics regions, the symmetry condition creates a free slip, insulated wall to mirror the expected pattern of the flow on either side of it.
  • For solid-thermal physics regions, the symmetry condition creates an insulated wall to mirror the expected pattern of the thermal solution on either side of it.
  • For a structural physics region, the symmetry condition creates a support normal to the face.
  • For a topology optimization simulation, the symmetry condition ensures that the model is dimensionally reduced based on a mirror plane. Note that the protected distance on the symmetric surface is set to zero.

Symmetry is currently only applicable to flat faces. You can apply symmetry to multiple faces on the same plane, even if the selected faces are on bodies with different physics applied.
