Thurstone V Score

When analyzing the results of a Pairwise Comparison procedure, the Thurstone V estimation method can be used as an alternative to the standard linear method to convert pairwise preference ratings into a preference score for each sound.

The Thurstone V Score metric is only available in the .csv file obtained when Exporting Analysis Data for a Pairwise Comparison test.

Preference values in the response matrix are seen as probabilities to be preferred to the other sounds, assuming a normal distribution of responses. Each preference is therefore converted to a z-statistic, which represents how many standard deviations of the normal law correspond to this probability. The final preference value for sound i is then the averaged z-statistics over the matrix columns:
