Creating a Light Guide

This page shows how to create a Light Guide from any guide curve or shape.

To create a Light Guide:

Prerequisites: A curve outlining the light guide length should already be sketched.
CAUTION: The Intersect tools from the Design tab do not work with a created Light Guide. We then recommend you to avoid creating Light Guide tangent to other bodies.
  1. From the Design tab, click Light Guide .

  2. Click and select a curve as Guide curve.
The guide curve corresponds to the curve along which the profile is swept to create the Light Guide.
  3. From the Body Type drop-down list, select the Light Guide's profile:

    • Select Circular shape to create a light guide with a circular profile and set its profile diameter.
    • Select Constant profile to create a light guide using a profile and click to select a surface.
    • Select Prism only to create a light guide without body. This option is useful when wanting to use a custom light guide body.
Note: If the Add operation is used with this mode, the height of the prisms is defined to reach the end of the guide curve.
  4. If you selected Prism only combined with the Add or Hybrid operation, you can define an Extra body height.
Extra body height corresponds to body height added from the guide curve in the opposite direction of the prisms.
Now, define the Prisms Orientation: Direction, Normal to surface, Variable direction.
