Plugin - Wedge Angle Determination

Description

This plugin is used to optimize the wedge angle of the windshield to minimize the ghost image in a HUD system with the Hud Optical Analysis (HOA) product.

It provides methods to qualify HUD’s virtual image metrics Ghost.

You can find a use case of the Projector Image here.

Ghost Image

When the image hits the inner surface of the windshield, it is split into two images

  • The main image that is reflected by the inner surface of the windshield
  • The ghost image that goes through the inner surface of the windshield is reflected by the outer surface of the windshield

As a result, the driver sees two images that give an impression of blur

Wedge Angle

To solve the ghost issue, one solution is to superpose both images seen by the driver.

To do that, the windshield is built with an angle between its two faces as shown on the image. This angle is called the "wedge angle".

Ghost analysis and optimization with Speos

Speos can analyze ghost images of Head Up Display to generate ghost report. Moreover it can help you optimize the ghost as a target by taking the wedge angle as a variable. Example:

Note: The "Ghost" is expressed in arcminute by default in the report. In Speos and Workbench, the "Ghost" is always expressed in degrees.

Essential for Optimizing Wedge Angle (Example)

Defining variables: windshield wedge angle (Geometrical parameter)

Defining targets: customized ghost value (output of HUD Optical Analysis metrics)
