Specify the attributes to publish for each record

After you have specified the records to include in a synchronization job, you must specify the Granta MI attribute data that will be published for each record.

Note: If you don't specify any attributes to publish, the materials will be created in Teamcenter, but will have no property data.

The synchronization job may include records from different database tables, and in general, these will have different attributes. For each database table, you select the attributes to publish.

Then, for each attribute, you define a Teamcenter parameter that the data will be published to. Optionally, you can also specify a Teamcenter category for the parameter. You can also specify whether you want any subsequent change to this published data to trigger a revision of the material in Teamcenter. (For example, you may not want changes to a Description or Information field to trigger a revision.)

This mapping of Granta MI attributes to Teamcenter parameters will apply to all records from that database table.

There are some constraints on how you can map Granta MI attributes to Teamcenter parameters.
  • You can publish attributes from different database tables to parameters that have the same name in Teamcenter. For example, if your synchronization job includes materials from the MaterialUniverse table with an attribute Young's modulus, and materials from the Aero table with an attribute Modulus of elasticity, you can publish both of those attributes to a Teamcenter parameter called 'Elastic modulus'. However, you cannot publish two different attributes from the same database table to parameters that have the same name in Teamcenter.
  • If you want to publish two or more attributes to parameters that have the same name, you must ensure that they will be published as the same data type in Teamcenter, and that they either have compatible units (can be converted to the same SI unit using conversions available in one of your Granta MI databases) or have no units.
  • If you assign Teamcenter categories to parameters that have the same name, you must use the same category for all of them.

These constraints apply only within your current synchronization job.

The table below shows the Granta MI attribute data types that can be published, and the data types that they will be converted to in Teamcenter.

Granta MI attribute data type Published as data type in Teamcenter
Short Text, Long Text, Hyperlink, Discrete (single value), Discrete (multi value), Logical, DateTime Mat1ParameterString
Point (single value), Range, Integer Mat1ParameterDouble
Float Functional (Series) Mat1ParameterSmartTable + Mat1SmartCurve

Note: The ability to synchronize files depends on your MI Enterprise Connect and Teamcenter system configuration. For more information, see the Granta MI Enterprise Connect Installation and Configuration Guide.
Float Functional (Grid), Point (multi value), Image, Tabular, Equations and Logic, Linked Records Not supported
  1. In the panel on the left, select the database table using the Database and Table lists.
  2. From the list of available attributes, select the attributes, and click Add.
    Tip:
    • You can filter the list of attributes by clicking and entering a search term.
    • To remove an attribute you have specified, select it in the main panel and click Remove.
  3. For each attribute:
    1. Enter a name for the Teamcenter parameter it will be published to.
    2. Optional: Specify a Teamcenter category for the parameter.
    3. Optional: Select Trigger Revision? if updates to this parameter should trigger a revision of the Teamcenter material.
Note: If Trigger Revision? is not selected, the Teamcenter material will only be revised if other changes are also made.
  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for each database table in your synchronization job.
At any time, you can edit the attributes and Teamcenter parameters you have specified.
Note: If the synchronization job has already been published to Teamcenter, then when you run the synchronization job again, your changes will apply to the current revisions of the catalog and its materials.
  • To change the name of the parameter that an attribute is published to, double-click Teamcenter parameter name and type the new parameter name. This does not affect any other Teamcenter parameters with the same name.
  • To change the category that a parameter belongs to, double-click Teamcenter category and enter the new category. The change will apply to all Teamcenter parameters with the same name within this synchronization job.
  • To remove an attribute you have specified, select it and click Remove.
