Sheet Steels

Updates to the Sheet Steels data table, part of the Advanced Materials - Metals data bundle.

The Sheet Steels data table is a property data resource containing information on 130+ grades of sheet steels commonly used in the automotive and manufacturing industries, and collated from multiple sources:

  • The StahlDat Sheet Steels dataset originally developed by the German Steel Institute and a consortium of automotive OEMs and steel producers. This data is compiled by Matplus GmbH and licensed for distribution by ANSYS, Inc. Summary datasheets are provided in the Sheet Steels Design Data section. These contain mechanical and processing information and are linked to underlying raw test data in the Sheet Steels Test Data section.
  • Data calibration on selected datasheets was carried out by DYNAmore (an Ansys company) in accordance with voestalpine Stahl GmbH and applicable international standards to transform raw test data into simulation-ready format. These datasheets are included in the Sheet Steels Design Data section.
Note: Data compiled by voestalpine Stahl GmbH and licensed for distribution by Ansys, Inc. ANSYS, Inc. provides no warranty for this data.
New or updated data
  • New simulation-ready data for 130 records covering the following simulation use cases:
    • Elasticity
    • Plasticity
    • Metal forming
  • Simulation-ready data in the voestalpine Stahl datasheets is as calibrated by DYNAmore.
    • This includes kinematic hardening data in 69 records in the form of Young's modulus vs Plastic strain curve and model parameters for the Chaboche-Rousselier model. This data is key for predicting snapback in forming simulations.
    • Few records also have Forming limit diagrams from two evaluation methods: strain-based and strain rate-based, the latter being more advanced and less commonly available.
  • Existing sheet steels records have been enhanced with simulation data. These are Ansys estimates using the raw test data in the linked records in Test Data table.
  • New material card exporters for several LS-DYNA material cards, Ansys Workbench, Abaqus and Nastran. LS-DYNA cards include:
    • MAT_001
    • MAT_024
    • MAT_036
    • MAT_133 with isotropic hardening
    • MAT_133 with kinematic hardening
    • MAT_190 with integrated Forming limit curve
    • Stand-alone export of the Forming limit curve (as .fld file)
  • There are also new links to records in the MaterialUniverse database.
