BoMs can be opened from three distinct sources, XML files, the BoM store, and MI
Materials Gateway. You can open any number of BoMs at once, with each one shown in a
separate tab.

To open a BoM from the BoM Store:
-
Open MI BoM Analyzer.
Tip: If you have licenses for both Restricted Substances and
Sustainability, ensure that you are in the correct mode.
-
Click BoM Store.
-
In the Available BoMs list, select the product
structure you want to view in MI BoM Analyzer.
Note: The
Available BoMs list shows BoMs in your
Products and parts table:
- that have the
Is product? attribute is set to
Yes.
- that are included in the
All products and parts
subset.
It does not show parts in the database that are not
categorized as products.
-

-
In the toolbar, click Open.
-

-
To open a BoM from MI Materials Gateway,
right-click it. and select Open in BoM Analyzer.
Tip: When you view a BoM from MI Materials Gateway, it opens in a new instance
of BoM Analyzer. To move it to
an existing BoM Analyzer
window, you can save the BoM as a file, and then open it in the existing
session.
For more information about BoM Analysis from
MI Materials Gateway, see
BoMs from MI Materials Gateway.
BoMs that were saved as files with an older format, will be automatically upgraded to
the current version when opened in BoM Analyzer.
The upgrade process does not affect the original XML file that you opened. If you
save the BoM again from BoM Analyzer, a new XML file is created in the current
format.
Some types of information that were supported in earlier BoM formats are not
supported in the current format. In general, this information is retained in the
BoM’s underlying XML (and will be saved to a new BoM file), but is not shown in BoM
Analyzer, and is ignored by the analysis.
