Assigning items

Find parts, materials, or other items in your Restricted Substances and Sustainability database, and add them to your BoM.

Note: The types of item that you can add to a BoM depend on

whether you are working in Restricted Substances mode or Sustainability mode, and there are restrictions on which item types can be added to each type of parent item.

  1. Open a BoM in BoM Analyzer.
The data browser opens in the right pane of the application.
  2. Use the tabs at the top of the data browser to choose the type of item to assign.
    • To search for an item, use the filter controls at the top of the tree.
    • To filter using a Favorites List, select it from the Favorites List menu.
Tip: You can also right-click in the BoM and use MI Explore to find items to assign as sub-items, or to replace the item you clicked. This allows you to use advanced search and filtering features, and add multiple items to the BoM in a single step.
  3. To add an item to the BoM, with the parent item selected in the BoM: right-click the item in the data browser, and choose Add. The new item is added as a sub-item of the parent item.
Tip: You can also drag-and-drop items from the data browser directly to the required location in the BoM. You can either Add it as a sub-item, or Replace an existing item.
Important: When you add an item to the BoM, or replace an existing item, you must ensure that its quantity and mass information is specified correctly in the BoM. See Specifying quantity and mass for a BoM item.
