Exporting data to Excel

You can export data to an Excel workbook, where users with no knowledge of Granta MI, or the structure of the information that must be supplied, can review and update data, or enter new data in Microsoft Excel.

Exported workbooks can then be imported back into Granta MI using the MI Import app, to add or update data.
Note: This feature is only available if your data view has been configured to enable it.

In an Excel export, the records containing the data to be exported are selected in the Explore app and then 'sent' to the Export app where:

  • A new export job is created, containing the records you selected in MI Explore.
  • You choose a template that defines which data and record properties will be exported from the selected records, and other data display options.
  • The data is then exported to an Excel workbook, which you can download.
  • If the records being exported include any file or picture data, such as PDF files or images, the export download will be a zip file containing the Microsoft Excel workbook and a folder with the file/picture data.
To export data to Excel:
  1. Select the record, then point to Export on the application toolbar, and choose Export Data to Excel.
This toolbar option is also available in the datasheet toolbar.
The Export app opens, with the records you selected in the Explore app shown under the Selected Records heading.
  2. Select a template, then click Export.
See the Export app help for information about templates.
