Creating a BoM
Although the BoM Store is populated with the available BoMs that are present in the structure of data in your database, you can also create a Bill of Materials manually in BoM Analyzer in two ways.
- You can start with a single root component, and then add parts and assemblies.
- You can copy an existing BoM, or a sub-assembly or part, to create a new BoM. This is useful if you want to duplicate a BoM and then make changes for comparison.
Important: When you create a BoM manually in MI BoM Analyzer, it exists only in your
web browser session. You can save your BoM as an XML file, but you cannot store that
BoM in the BoM Store.
When you create a new BoM, you must give it a Product number and a
BoM name. You can edit these at any time.
- The Product number is typically the root component's identifier, and may contain letters, numbers, and other characters. This is displayed in the Item column of the BoM display.
- The BoM name is displayed in the BoM tab header.
