Compliance indicators

The Product Compliance report and the interactive analysis in BoM Analyzer include a range of indicators that analyze the BoM's compliance with a specific legislation or list – such as EU RoHS, China RoHS, ELV, SIN List, EU REACH SVHC, IAEG AD-DSL, and MDR.

Compliance indicators are calculated for each item in the analyzed BoM, and evaluate substance content against a threshold percentage (% by weight) of the parent item, for those substances impacted by the relevant legislation or list.
  • A compliance indicator may use a threshold value that is specified individually in the database for each substance impacted by the legislation or list (for example, RoHS), or it may use a default threshold that applies to all substances (typically 0.1%).
  • Alternatively, a compliance indicator may simply report on the presence or absence of substances impacted by the legislation or list (for example, the SIN List indicator) – it effectively has a threshold of 0%.
Compliance indicator values are calculated from the substance level upwards.
  • For each substance in the analyzed BoM, the analysis evaluates its compliance status. If the indicator reports against a non-zero threshold, the compliance status is evaluated using the percentage (by weight) that has been declared for that substance in the substance declaration for its parent item (see Substance declaration types).

Note: For a substance associated with a material, this means that the percentage (by weight) is calculated at the homogeneous material level. If the substance is directly associated with a part, coating, or specification, these are effectively treated as homogeneous materials for the purpose of the analysis.
  • For materials, coatings, specifications, parts, and assemblies in the analyzed BoM, the compliance indicator value is calculated ('rolled-up') from the items below it in the BoM.
Some indicators (for example, RoHS) take into account exemptions for specific uses, where these have been declared in your database for parts in the BoM. The possible values of the indicator, and the rules used to calculate the results at each level of the BoM, are different depending on whether the indicator takes exemptions into account. For more details, see Roll-up logic for an indicator with exemptions (RoHS, ELV) and Roll-up logic for an indicator without exemptions.
Note: Process chemicals may or may not be included in the analysis, depending on the indicator. If they are not included, any substance in the analyzed BoM that is categorized as a ‘Process chemical’ will not have a value calculated for that indicator.
