Running an analysis or report

In BoM Analyzer, you can analyze and report on a BoM, in either Restricted Substances or Sustainability mode. You can also compare BoMs (if you are in Sustainability mode), or view reports on individual BoM items or data records (if you are in Restricted Substances mode).

When you are viewing a BoM, you can analyze and report on it in two ways.

  • You can click Analyze in the toolbar to view an interactive analysis that is displayed in the BoM area. For each BoM item, the analysis calculates mass values (where applicable) and indicators for either Product Compliance or Sustainability. You can edit the analyzed BoM and re-run the analysis, or copy it to create a new BoM to analyze.

    • In Restricted Substances mode, the Product Compliance analysis identifies the restricted substances associated with the BoM, and evaluates it for compliance with a range of indicators. See Viewing a Product Compliance analysis.

    • In Sustainability mode, the Sustainability analysis calculates the Climate Change and Embodied Energy impacts for the material, manufacturing, and transport phases of the product lifecycle. See Viewing a Sustainability analysis.

      If you have more than one BoM open, you can also view a comparison of Sustainability indicators for each BoM. See Comparing BoMs.

  • Alternatively, you can download and view a BoM report (for example, in Excel format) that can be edited, analyzed, and saved in another application.
    • In Restricted Substances mode, you can view a Product Compliance report, and two EU REACH reports at different levels of detail.
    • In Sustainability mode, you can view a Sustainability report.

    These reports can be run on the BoM at any time, and give the same results regardless of whether the BoM has been analyzed by clicking in the toolbar (as above). See Viewing a report on a BoM.

In Restricted Substances mode, you can also run a Record List report on an individual part, material, specification, or substance, to analyze how it is linked to other records in your database. See Viewing a report on a single BoM item or data record.
