Importing CAD assignments from a file

If your CAD designer has provided a Bill of Materials (BoM) file, you can use Gateway to view a list of the materials specified in the file, and import them to Abaqus/CAE.

  1. Click in the navigation bar and select Import from file.
  2. Click Open a file, then navigate the Bill of Materials file and select it.
Tip: You can open more than one file at once. Click the file name in the navigation bar to switch between them.
  3. In the list of CAD material assignments, select the materials you want to import, and double-click to import them.
  4. If there is data missing for any of the materials, you are prompted to review your import.
    1. To see details of the missing data, click the arrow at the left of the material name.
    2. If you prefer not to import a material that has missing data, use the check boxes on the far left to remove it from your selection.
  5. When you are happy with the list of materials for import, click Import.

The materials are imported to your current model in Abaqus/CAE.

All the materials that have been imported are displayed in the Imported material cards panel.
  • To see more information about a material, right-click it and select View datasheet.
  • To delete an imported material, right-click it and select Delete. This deletes the material from your model.
If a material is marked as missing , this means that it is no longer available in your Granta MI database.  Where possible, its name is shown to help you find a suitable replacement.
