Azure Files SMB Storage

SMB file shares are used as storage for Windows-based applications.

When an administrator creates a project space, they have the option of creating an Azure Files SMB storage at that time.

This SMB file share is listed on the Storage page of the project space settings:

The SMB file share is automatically mounted on both Windows and Linux virtual desktops in the project space and can also be mounted on an autoscaling cluster if desired.

Azure Files SMB storage can also be created when defining an autoscaling cluster. It is useful for file sharing when files need to be accessed on a Windows virtual desktop.

Note: When creating a cluster, SMB storage cannot be used for application installation. It can only be used for project or job files.

To learn more about this storage type, see SMB file shares in Azure Files in the Microsoft Azure documentation.
