Adding a Location

To deploy virtual machines in a specific Azure datacenter, a location representing the datacenter location must be added to the Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure configuration.

When a location is added to the configuration, it appears in the Location drop-down list when administrators are creating project spaces and resources.

Important: Before adding locations in Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure, make sure that your Virtual Networks (VNets) have internal connectivity in Azure. See Ensuring Connectivity Between Virtual Networks (VNets) and Locations.

To add a location to the configuration:

  1. On the main toolbar, click to display the Administration menu.
  2. In the navigation pane, select Locations.
  3. On the Locations page, click Add location.
  4. Keep the Add location dialog open while you open another browser tab.
  5. On the new browser tab, go to the Azure portal.
  6. In the Azure portal, search for and select virtual networks. Select your Virtual Network, then select Subnets in the navigation pane to display the subnets for your Virtual Network.
In Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure, you should add a location for each of the subnets listed in your VNet.
  7. In Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure, in the Add location dialog, specify the following settings:
    • Name. The name of the location as it will appear in Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure.

    • Azure subscription nickname. The Ansys-generated name representing the Azure subscription to which the virtual network is scoped.

    • Region. The Azure datacenter region that will provision the computing and networking resources.

    • Virtual network resource group. The name of the resource group that holds your Azure resources, as defined in the Resource Manager in the Azure portal. The region in which the resource group is created in Azure portal must be the same region selected in this wizard.

    • VNet name. The name of the Virtual Network into which resources will be deployed, as defined in the Azure portal.

    • Subnet name. The name of the subnet (within the specified VNet) into which virtual machines will be deployed, as defined in the Azure portal.

Note: As Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure can be scoped to only one Azure subscription with one resource group, the Azure subscription nickname and Virtual network resource group property values are pre-populated and cannot be changed.
  8. Click Add. The location is added to the list and will now be available when administrators create project spaces and resources.
  9. To ensure that Azure storages can be created in the location, enable the Microsoft.Storage service in the subnet settings in Azure portal.
    1. In the Azure portal, search for and select virtual networks. Select your Virtual Network, then select Subnets in the navigation pane to display the subnets for your Virtual Network.
    2. In the subnet list, select the subnet.
    3. In the subnet's properties, under Services, enable Microsoft.Storage.

  10. Repeat the above steps to add a location for each subnet in your VNet.
Note: When you add a location for an Azure region that is different than the region used when setting up Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure, it may take between 5 and 10 minutes for the location to be initialized in Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure. When creating resources, the hardware table will not display updated virtual machine sizes, pricing, and quotas for this location until the initialization has completed.
