Materials data

Ansys provide reference data that can be used for selecting materials for your projects. This can be supplemented with in-house data to aid your selection.

Ansys materials reference data is stored in records. These records are organized into databases, which are further divided into tables and subsets. Each record contains a set of attributes, and these attributes are displayed in record datasheets.

You can find records by browsing tables and subsets, using keyword searches, or creating selection projects to identify materials and processes which meet your selection criteria.

You can use links between tables to explore which materials and processes apply to each other, and select records based on possible processing chains. Using these relational data tables, you can select a small subset of entities which optimally satisfy the requirements of a design.

The selection is design-led, meaning that the inputs are the design requirements. These are translated into a prescription for selecting material and process properties. All entities in the databases are treated as potential candidates until, by screening, they are shown to be unsuitable. As a consequence, viable candidates cannot be overlooked.

If you have your own materials data, you can add it to a selection project for comparison with Ansys-provided reference materials by creating a user-defined record .
