Software Requirements

Make sure that your system meets these software requirements.

Operating System

You need a Linux server distribution that supports the required container engine.

Container Engine

  • Docker version 19.03.0 or later
  • Docker Compose

Docker Compose is installed as a component with the Docker Engine.

Note: Install Docker engine from the Docker repositories. Do not use the version provided in the Linux distribution repositories as it is often out-of-date.

For installation information, see the Docker website.

Container Base Images

  • Apache Tomcat 10.1.30-jre17
  • PostgreSQL 14.7
Note: When the Docker host has no internet connection, these base container images must be accessible on an internal container registry or cached in the local Docker engine. If the images are not available, they need to be downloaded manually and imported. For more information, see Make Container Base Images Available Offline.

Compatibility with Ansys medini analyze

The Ansys System Engineering Server is only compatible with an Ansys medini analyze installation with the same version number.

Client Software

The latest version of a web browser, such as Firefox, Edge, Chrome, or Safari.

Licensing and Authentication Requirements

Depending on how you use the Ansys System Engineering Server, different licensing setups are required.

System Engineering Server with medini analyze
No licenses required for the server.
Licensed medini analyze users can use the MBSE server for medini collaboration.
System Engineering Server with Ansys SAM and Ansys DSM
To be able to add and authenticate users for Ansys SAM and Ansys DSM, you use Ansys ID. Among other things, this requires opening an HTTPS connection on port 443 to https://id.ansys.com.
Air-gapped Ansys SAM and Ansys DSM customers
Ansys License Manager (ALM) installed on-premises
To enable users to sign in to the Ansys System Engineering Server, you must have an Ansys License Manager (ALM) installed on premises for Ansys ID, or use local authentication..
Customers with single sign-on (SSO)
To be able to add and authenticate users for Ansys SAM and Ansys DSM, you use Ansys ID. This requires, among other things, opening an HTTPS connection on port 443 to https://id.ansys.com.

Email Requirements

Depending on how you plan to use the System Engineering Server, different email requirements apply.

You need to be able to send email from the server, for example when inviting users or sending passwords.

Collaboration Server
To be able to send emails from the System Engineering Server you need an email server running SMTP, SMTPS, or StartTLS.
Ansys SAM and Ansys DSM
User management for Ansys SAM and Ansys DSM is handled by Ansys ID. No additional email server is needed.
Air-gapped Ansys SAM and Air-gapped Ansys DSM
Ansys ID is not available for air-gapped users of Ansys SAM and Ansys DSM.
To send emails to users, you need an email server running SMTP, SMTPS, or StartTLS.
Customers with single sign-on (SSO)

Firewall Access for Ansys ID and Ansys Web Licensing

To use Ansys ID and Ansys Web Licensing, the MBSE server must be able to access the internet URLs listed below.

Make sure that these URLs are accessible through your company's firewall.

To use Ansys ID:

  • ansysaccount.b2clogin.com
  • ansysaccount.ansys.com
  • storage.ansys.com
  • fonts.googleapis.com
  • fonts.gstatic.com

To use Ansys Web Licensing, such as Named User Licenses:

  • laas.ansys.com

If your company uses an SSO system, such as Microsoft Entra ID, that is federated with the system from Ansys, the following URLs must also be accessible:

  • login.microsoft.com
  • aadcdn.microsoft.com
  • login.microsoftonline.com
  • autologon.microsoftazureread-sso.com

Note that additional exceptions might be needed for any Azure/Entra customizations you configured in your company's SSO system for a dedicated sign-in experience.

Additional Requirements

These components are also required to successfully install the Ansys System Engineering Server.

SSL Certificate Keystore
Because you must encrypt the service using a HTTPS connection, you need an SSL certificate. For more information, see SSL Certificate Configuration.
WebSocket-enabled Network
Your network and host firewalls must allow WebSocket TCP traffic, for all three products (Ansys SAM, Ansys DSM, System Engineering Server).
