Chapter 2: Starting CFD-Post

This chapter describes how to start CFD-Post and the environment variables that affect how CFD-Post operates.

Note:  When starting CFD-Post for the first time:

  • A dialog box appears that enables you to choose a GUI style (theme). When a GUI style is selected, it is stored as the GUI Style user preference for future sessions. In future sessions, if the selected GUI style is not recognized, the dialog box reappears for selection of a recognized style.

  • The default system font is obtained and, if it is deemed inappropriate for CFD-Post, a dialog box appears that enables you to choose a new font. When a font is selected, it is stored as the Font user preference for future sessions.

For details on the GUI Style and Font user preferences, see Appearance.

Note:
  • You can also start CFD-Post from other Ansys products; for details, refer to the documentation that comes with those products.

  • For CFX, TurboGrid and CFD-Post applications, the graphics viewer, which is based on OpenGL 4.5, will work with Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop Connection only if you are using Nvidia Quadro graphics cards with appropriate drivers for Windows 10. If you see an empty (black) viewer, try setting the environment variable CFX_QT_OPENGL=desktop on the remote machine, in the local environment of the intended application (for example, in a shell or script that launches the application), before starting the application. Consider adding this environment variable to the cfx5rc.txt user’s configuration file. To work around this issue you may launch the CFX application prior to making the remote connection, or use one of the other Ansys-supported remote display methods.
