When reading a case file in the Common Fluids Format (.cas.h5),
you can request that Fluent automatically merges as many of the cell zones and face zones as
possible. For cases that have large numbers of similar zones, this can decrease the time
needed for input/output, initialization, and solution, decrease the required memory, and
improve the responsiveness of the user interface. Note that zones are only merged if they have
the same settings and are topologically connected; some similar zones may not be merged if
they are referenced by a model (such as dynamic mesh zones or non-conformal interfaces), but
you may be able to merge them manually after read (as described in Merging Zones in the Fluent User's Guide).
To automatically merge zones during read, perform the following steps:
Open a session of Fluent.
Enable access to the beta features (Introduction).
Enable automatic zone merging using the following text command:
file→auto-merge-zones?Read a case file in the Common Fluids Format (
.cas.h5).Messages about the zone merging process are printed in the console.
Note that the IDs of the merged zones are revised, and so you must update any journal files that you intend to use with the case file.
