36.20. Fault-tolerant Meshing: Updating Regions with Rapid-Octree

In the Update Region Settings task, the skin option for the Extraction Method and the rapid-octree option for Volume Fill are available as beta features. Regions that are identified by material points can have rapid-octree specified for the volume fill with none selected for the extraction method, if the region is relatively clean. Rapid-octree can also be specified for the volume fill combined with the skin option for the extraction method, which can be effective for walking over small geometric features.

Small Geometric Features

In complex models, some regions are intentionally given coarse size controls due to their lower significance. These areas often have many small geometric details. Using only rapid-octree (RO) can struggle to smoothly walk-over these unimportant features without compromising final mesh quality, frequently leading to undesirable artifacts like spikes that are not adequately detected by quality metrics. The skin option offers an effective method to integrate the wrapper with rapid-octree, enabling a graceful handling of such details while preserving the overall mesh integrity.
