Chapter 7: Known Issues and Limitations

Review the following known issues and limitations:

  • Use Metric units for sintering analyses to avoid issues associated with Imperial units in Ansys releases 2022 R2 through 2025 R2.

  • Upon initiating a solve, the Sinter Material object generates an APDL script corresponding to the APDL sinter material. The Sinter Material object is a standalone implementation that is currently not integrated into Engineering Data.

  • Certain features of the APDL nonlinear material are accessible only with APDL scripting. For such features, Ansys recommends you specify the material assignment via APDL commands (TB, SINT).

    • Anisotropic shrinkage (TB, SINT,,,,ANICONST)

    • Time step control based on maximum viscous strain increment (CUTCONTROL, VSLIMIT)

Newer users who are less familiar with APDL scripting for material assignments can use the wizard to generate the ds.dat input file and use it as a reference.

  • Use of Scripting for Additive Manufacturing Add‑Ons

The Additive Manufacturing add‑ons (extensions) rely on internal, unpublished APIs that are subject to change between releases. As a result, scripting for these extensions is not supported. Although some journal operations may appear to work, subsequent edits or scripted workflows may fail due to internal implementation changes.

This limitation applies to the following add‑ons: PBF Process, DED Process, Sinter Process, and Distortion Compensation.
