Systems are added from left-to-right, and from top-to-bottom. All data transfer occurs from left (upstream) to right (downstream); you cannot transfer data from right to left.

When placing or moving systems, it is important that you place receiving systems to the right of sending systems. All processing of data (such as updates) also occurs in the same direction, from left-to-right and top-to-bottom.
