Add Data Transfers

Add data transfers to the co-simulation.

  1. On the Messages tab, click the Action Required message indicating that at least one data transfer is required.

    Coupling Interface 1 is highlighted.

  2. Create the FSI data transfer group.

    1. Right-click Coupling Interface 1 and select Add FSI Data Transfers.

The Data Transfer branch is added to the tree, with Force and Mesh_Displacement data transfers defined beneath it.

  3. Define the force data transfer.

    1. Click the Force data transfer.

Corresponding settings are shown below in the Properties pane.

Note that Target Side is set to Two. In this case, Mechanical (side two) will receive forces generated by CFX (side one).

    2. Keep the variable values, which are automatically populated as follows:

      • Source Variable is set to Force.

        This is CFX's output variable.

      • Target Variable is set to Force.

        This is Mechanical's input variable.

    3. Change convergence settings for the Force data transfer.

For Convergence Target, type in 0.001.

  4. Define the displacement data transfer.

    1. Click the Mesh_Displacement data transfer.

Corresponding settings are shown below in the Properties pane.

Note that Target Side is set to One. In this case, CFX (side one) will receive incremental displacements generated by Mechanical (side two).

    2. Keep the variable values, which are automatically populated as follows:

      • Source Variable is set to Incremental Displacement.

        This is CFX's input variable.

      • Target Variable is set to Mesh Displacement.

        This is Mechanical's output variable.
