Discovery includes a built-in database of more than 700 predefined materials called Ansys Granta Materials Data for Simulation (MDS), which is pre-populated with simulation-ready material properties. A separate Ansys Granta Materials Data for Simulation flex license is required to view and assign these materials from the MDS database onto Discovery components.
You can use materials from the MDS database in the same way as any other Discovery materials.
MDS materials are marked with a blue diamond symbol in Discovery:
Note: An MDS license is held for 30 minutes or until the program is closed, whichever occurs first. Subsequent access of MDS data resets the timer. When no MDS license is available, MDS materials are not displayed in the available list of materials. Existing/saved Discovery projects with one or more MDS materials already assigned can still be simulated and the properties of those assigned MDS materials can be viewed.
