The option clears up the memory used by the history. This option is most useful after performing an operation (such as "Add to Part", "Change Type", or "Split/Redistribute Prisms") on a large number of elements because the needs to store the state both before and after the operation in memory.
Note: The option frees up the memory for further operations, but you will not be able to undo the particular operation any more.
