15.5. Coupling Between the Evaporation-Condensation Model and the Discrete PBM

When beta feature access is enabled, you can couple the polydisperse model for evaporation and condensation with the homogeneous discrete population balance model. To do so:

  1. Set the Eulerian multiphase model and the discrete population balance model as appropriate for your case.

  2. In the Phase Interaction > Mass tab of the Multiphase Model dialog box, define the mass transfer mechanism.

    1. Set the Number of Mass Transfer Mechanisms to 1.

    2. Make sure that one of the participating phases is the population balance phase.

    3. Select evaporation-condensation from the Mechanism drop-down list.

  3. In the Population Balance Model tab, select Phenomena and Growth Rate.

The pb-evap-cond option that couples the polydisperse model for evaporation and condensation with the homogeneous discrete population balance model is automatically selected in the drop-down list next to Growth Rate.

Note:
  • Only one mass transfer process can be used, and it must be of the type evaporation-condensation

  • One of the phases participating in evaporation-condensation mass transfer must be the population balance phase

  • Currently, the pb-evap-cond option is designed to be used with the discrete population balance model only
