Chapter 16: Raytracing

Raytracing is an advanced rendering technique for creating high quality scientific visualization results. It generates global lighting effects naturally by simulating physical transportation of photons. Starting from EnSight 2022 R1, the raytracing engine of EnSight, EnRay, is now based on Intel’s OSPRay engine (http://ospray.org). OSPRay is a CPU based, open source, high performance raytracing software with many advanced features. We mainly rely on the included path tracer, which has interactive rendering capability of photorealistic global illumination. For a quick start on how to use the raytracer, see Use Raytrace Rendering.

In this chapter, we provide some in-depth discussions on the usage of the Raytracer.
