2.3. Steps in Setting Up a Mechanism Reduction

Here is an overview of the steps for setting up a mechanism reduction. Following this is more detail for each step.

  1. Set up the Chemkin reactor model. For this step, the Batch reactor template can be chosen for the most convenient way to set up the model.

    1. Use the fuel composition of interest.

    2. Consider diluent or EGR composition if it is used in the engine.

    3. Set the parameter study to cover the range of initial local conditions.

  2. Set up the mechanism reduction project in Reaction Workbench.

    1. Select the method for reduction.

    2. Select the targets of interest and provide the acceptable tolerance levels.
