There may be occasions when a simulation fails and cannot continue. If that is the case, a warning message will pop up on your desktop and you will get an error message in the activity log. The following table lists a common error message related to the number of iterations in the simulation and recommended actions.
Error Message: Invalid state: Hit maximum iterations (12000) with a residual of 10071.14… | |
Cause |
Suggested Solution |
Too coarse of a mesh, leading to poor connectivity between elements (that is, elements only sharing corners/edges). |
Try reducing voxel size to improve connectivity of the mesh. |
As the number of iterations required to reach convergence scales nonlinearly with the problem size, this may be indicative of too large of a problem. |
Try increasing voxel size to reduce the problem size. |
May happen in regions of a part with large unsupported cantilevered overhangs, resulting in excessive local distortion. |
May try adjusting support structure settings to avoid large unsupported overhangs. |
Convergence is dependent on the level of interconnectedness of the mesh. Thin shell parts or parts connected only by slender members may not be so well interconnected. |
May try modifying geometry to improve interconnectedness or try simulating the part in a different orientation. |
