3.2. Common Error Messages During a Simulation

There may be occasions when a simulation fails and cannot continue. If that is the case, a warning message will pop up on your desktop and you will get an error message in the activity log. The following table lists a common error message related to the number of iterations in the simulation and recommended actions.

Error Message:

Invalid state: Hit maximum iterations (12000) with a residual of 10071.14…

Cause

Suggested Solution

Too coarse of a mesh, leading to poor connectivity between elements (that is, elements only sharing corners/edges).

Try reducing voxel size to improve connectivity of the mesh.

As the number of iterations required to reach convergence scales nonlinearly with the problem size, this may be indicative of too large of a problem.

Try increasing voxel size to reduce the problem size.

May happen in regions of a part with large unsupported cantilevered overhangs, resulting in excessive local distortion.

May try adjusting support structure settings to avoid large unsupported overhangs.

Convergence is dependent on the level of interconnectedness of the mesh. Thin shell parts or parts connected only by slender members may not be so well interconnected.

May try modifying geometry to improve interconnectedness or try simulating the part in a different orientation.
