Understanding Speos Light Box Parameters

This section describes the parameters to set when exporting or importing a Speos Light Box.

Black Box Option (Export)

Description

A Speos Light Box can be black-boxed to restrict the access to all its sources/geometries/optical properties details and protect the intellectual property. Other users will not be able to access the Light Box content and how light propagates inside it.

When the Black Box option is activated, the *.SPEOSLightBox file and all the non-packaged dependencies are placed in an encrypted container, when computing the Speos Light Box Export feature.

Then, when importing a black-boxed Speos Light Box, the Speos Light Box Import feature in the tree does not display the included geometries and sources, and only the bounding box of the Speos Light Box is displayed in the 3D view.

Impacts

  • In case of an Interactive Simulation or a Light Expert analysis:
    • When simulating a system with a black-boxed Speos Light Box, the ray tracing does not show the optical path inside the black-boxed Speos Light Box. A simple line is displayed inside the bounding box between the input impact and the output impact on the bounding box.
    • Impact report does not mention impacts inside the black-boxed Speos Light Box, it only records impacts on the bounding box.

  • In case you input a black-boxed Light Box in a Speos Pattern, or a Camera, the 3D view will not display the content of the Light Box.
  • The HTML report provides limited information related to the black-boxed Light Box (example: number of bodies contained in the light box is not counted).
  • Results can be impacted. Example: If you separated the data by source, in the XMP result you cannot see the layers corresponding to the sources included in a black-boxed Light Box, whatever the number of sources included. Only one layer will be displayed for the black-boxed Light Box. All other sources in the simulation that are not included in the black-boxed Light Box will have their own layer.
  • Black-boxed Light Boxes are not considered in the memory estimation of a simulation. Black-box restricts the access to the content of a Light Box, therefore preventing its estimation.
Note: When using a black-boxed light box in a Speos pattern, the bounding box of the light box can appear larger and sometimes incorrectly oriented in the 3D view.

Display Mode (Import)

The Display Mode parameter provide you with to modes to visualize your imported Speos Light Box:
  • Facets
  • Bounding Box
Bouding Box Facets Facets with a selected element
Important: Each time you change the Display mode, you need to compute the Speos Light Box.

Trajectory File (Import)

The Trajectory File (.json) allows you to create a dynamic group of geometries. When a trajectory file is assigned to a Speos Light Box Import and the feature is edited, the trajectory is displayed in the 3D view.

To understand how to create a Trajectory File, refer to Trajectory File and Trajectory Script Example.
