Simulations Overview

Simulations allow you to give life to the optical system in order to generate results.

Simulations allow to materialize and test out an optical system by propagating rays between the key components of optical simulation (materials, sources, sensors).

Different types of simulations are available to cover the different needs that might appear along the entire design process.

From dynamic to deterministic simulation, you can visualize how the light behaves in a given optical system and analyze the results of such simulation.

Types of Simulations

  • The Interactive Simulation allows you to visualize in the CAD the behavior of light rays in an optical system. This simulation can be really useful to quickly understand how a design modification can impact the optical behavior.
  • The Direct Simulation allows you to propagate a large number of rays from sources to sensors through an optical system (a geometry).
  • The Inverse Simulation allows you to propagate a large number of rays from sensors (a camera or an eye) to sources through an optical system.
  • The LiDAR Simulation allows you to generate output data and files that enable to analyze a LiDAR system and configuration.

In Speos

You can create any kind of simulation depending on your configuration.

Different simulation outputs may be generated depending on the type of simulation performed:

  • HMTL reports that provide detailed information about the simulation.
  • Extended Maps (XMP), useful to analyze the results or test a measure according to specific regulations.
  • PNG results
  • .ldt, .ies files (intensity files generated when creating an interactive or direct simulation including an intensity sensor).
  • HDRIs
  • Speos360 files
  • Ray files (when the generation is enabled during simulation definition).
  • LPF, LP3 files (generated when Light Expert is activated).

Some tools are available to manage the simulations results like Light Expert or the LABS viewers allowing you to analyze and perform measures on the results.
