Express View
The option to work in Express View is available for all primary editors (Lens Data Editor, Non-Sequential Component Editor, Field Data Editor, Multi-Configuration Editor, Merit Function Editor, Tolerance Data Editor). It can be activated using the "Toggle Express View" switch in the editor toolbar. A global default preference can also be set in OpticStudio Preferences > Editors > Default Editor View.
While Normal View enables all the editor features, Express View enables only the essential features to maximize speed. The reduced functionality is what enables the greatly improved speed, and as such it will not be changed.
In general, the functionalities lacking in Express View are those involving the 'dynamic' aspects of the editors. Some features which have been made unavailable or behave differently in Express View are:
- Properties dialogs are modal, meaning that they open in front of the OpticStudio window and must be closed out in order to gain access to the rest of the interface.
- Dynamic highlighting of surfaces or objects in Layout Plots or 3D Viewers is not supported.
- Intelligent column display is disabled, meaning that all columns (parameter columns in the LDE, for instance) are always visible. Neither columns nor rows can be hidden.
- Columns cannot be re-ordered. The "Reset Column Order" button in the toolbar is disabled.
- Column widths cannot be automatically adjusted. The "Reset Column Widths" and "Automatic Width" buttons in the toolbars are disabled.
- Auto-fill suggestions for string entries are disabled (for instance, auto-fill suggestions for operand names in the Merit Function Editor).
- Bookmarks cannot be edited in Express View. However, you can still use the Go To tool to jump to any row with a bookmark.
- The default merit function "Start At" row in the Optimization Wizard will not be updated automatically when the operand number of DMFS is changed in Express View. The Start At row will instead need to be specified manually.
