Optimization Function Criteria
Wavefront The aberration measured in waves. See "Comments about RMS wavefront computations" section in RMS vs. Field.
Contrast Optimizes the MTF of the system using the Moore-Elliott Contrast method, also called Contrast Optimization. See the "Optimizing for MTF" for more information about the Moore-Elliott Contrast method.
Spot: Computes both the x and y extent of the transverse ray aberrations in image space. The x and y components are considered separately, and both are optimized together. The signs of the aberrations are retained, which yields better derivatives for optimization. Alternatively, if both X Weight and Y Weight input are set to 0, computes the spot size based on radial transverse ray aberration.
Angular Computes both the x and y extent of the angular aberrations in image space. The x and y components are considered separately, and both are optimized together. The signs of the aberrations are retained, which yields better derivatives for optimization. Intended for afocal systems. See "Afocal Image Space"
