Item types for Restricted Substances

The types of data that you can assign in BoM Analyzer when working in Restricted Substances mode.

Note: The BoM item types that you can view or assign in BoM Analyzer are filtered depending on whether you are working in Sustainability mode or Restricted Substances mode. This is to ensure that you assign data that is relevant to the type of analysis you are carrying out.

Part Assembly	Assemblies and parts are shown as different icons in BoM Analyzer, depending on whether the item has sub-components. If the item has at least one sub-component (part or sub-assembly), it is shown in the BoM as an assembly If the item does not contain any other parts or sub-assemblies (although it may contain materials, specifications, or substances), it is shown in the BoM as a part If you edit a part in a BoM to add a sub-component (part or sub-assembly), its icon automatically changes to show that it is an assembly. Parts and assemblies: May be linked to materials, specifications, and/or substances in the database Can have materials, specifications, and substances assigned in BoM Analyzer. Note: It is possible for a part or assembly in an XML BoM file to have Process records as sub-items, but these are not relevant to Restricted Substances analysis, and are not displayed in BoM Analyzer. Material	Represents a material in your Restricted Substances and Sustainability database. This may be a generic material (from the MaterialUniverse table) or an in-house material (from the Materials – in-house table). May have Substances linked to it in the database. You cannot add substances to a material when editing the BoM. Any substances associated with the material (either directly, or via a fallback link to a generic material) will be displayed when the BoM is analyzed. When editing the BoM, a Material can be assigned to a Part. Note: It is possible for a Material in an XML BoM file to have Processes as sub-items, but these are not relevant to Restricted Substances analysis, and are not displayed in BoM Analyzer. Specification	A specification representing a process, for example, a surface treatment or KIT paint system, that may be assigned to a part. May have coatings, materials, or other specifications linked to it in the database May have Substances linked to it in the database. Substances cannot be added when editing the BoM. When editing the BoM, a Specification can be assigned to a Part.	BoM Part/Assembly Specification	Material Coating Specification Substance
Coating	Represents a coating, these may be generic or in-house. May have Substances linked to it in the database. Substances cannot be added when editing the BoM. A coating cannot be assigned to a Specification when editing the BoM. Coatings that are linked to specifications in the database will be shown in the expanded BoM when it is analyzed. Substance	A restricted substance that is associated with a part, material, specification, or coating. May be linked to parts, materials, specifications, or coatings in the Restricted Substances and Sustainability database. When the BoM is analyzed, those components are expanded to show the substances that are associated with them. Substances can be added directly to parts and assemblies when editing the BoM. External	Represents a BoM record stored in a different Granta MI database. When the BoM is opened in BoM Analyzer, this record is substituted by its linked Restricted Substances and Sustainability record for analysis.
