Creating a selection project

Choose the data to select from and filter using selection stages. The record subset for the Selection Table determines which records are available for selection.

Set the Selection data:
  1. On the File menu, click New Project.
  2. Select the data to use from the list. This sets the subset of data records and also the attribute layout to use with the selection project.

Alternatively, you can customize the selection settings by Creating a custom subset.

  3. Optional: If required, set a reference record. The reference record allows comparison of materials against a benchmark (for example, an existing material to be replaced), and it can be highlighted on a selection chart for easy identification.
Add selection stages:
  1. Create a new stage in the Selection Stages pane.
    OptionDescription
Chart/Index View and set criteria based on the relationship between properties (attributes) by plotting them as the axes of a chart (graphical selection). For more information, see Chart stage.
Limit Set criteria for single properties without a visual overview (limit selection). For more information, see Limit Stage.
Tree Set criteria based on links between entities. For more information, see Tree Stage.

The selection results are displayed as a list of record names or on a selection chart if you have created a chart stage. The selection results for the project are the cumulative results of all the stages, a record must 'pass' all the stages to be considered a candidate.

You can list the selection results by records that pass all stages, an individual stage, or all records can be displayed in a pass/fail table. Each list of records can be ranked by the selection criteria.

Selection results can be viewed as a Comparison Table or on a Selection Report.
