Updating the material cards with data for simulation

If you have transferred Granta MI material assignments to an Ansys Workbench simulation project as 'CAD Connected' materials, you can use MI Materials Gateway to import additional data for simulation, while preserving the association between the material cards and the part geometry.

Prerequisites: To ensure that Granta MI material assignments are transferred as 'CAD Connected' materials, the part geometry must have been imported to Ansys Workbench using one of the following methods:

When you open MI Materials Gateway from the Engineering Data component that is linked to the analysis system, the 'CAD Connected' materials are visible in the Imported material cards list.

Engineering Data name
The name of the material object, as it appears in the Engineering Data component.
Tip: This column may be hidden by default. To display it, right-click anywhere in the column header row and select Engineering Data name.
Material
The name of the material in the Granta MI database.
Note: The icon 'CAD data only' indicates that this is a 'CAD Connected' material card that must be updated with data for simulation.
To update the material cards with data for simulation, do one of:
  • Right-click each material card individually to choose and import a material model (or choose a simulation record, if these are in use on your system).

    Choose Select CAE material model, then double-click to import a material model for the CAD material.

    To choose a simulation record and model
    Choose View related Simulation Records, then double-click to import a simulation record, and choose a material model if prompted.
    Note: This option is available if your system is configured to use Simulation records.
    Tip: Ensure that you choose Replace data on selected card when importing the model.
