Supported formats for file export

When exporting assignments as a file from MI Materials Gateway, the following formats are supported.

Note: Your Granta MI administrator may have configured the Export to file feature to hide some of these formats.
XML (Granta MI BoM format)
The exported XML file includes details of the component hierarchy, and the material, process, and surface treatment assignments.
  • If your system supports alternate assignments, only the primary assignments are included in the exported file.
  • If you have assigned a specific CAE material model (in Creo or NX), the model type is not included in the exported file. When a CAE user opens the file in MI Materials Gateway they will see a list of all materials assigned to the BoM, and can choose any available CAE material model (with parameters, where applicable) to import.
  • Color assignments are not included in the exported file.
The exported XML file includes the mass (where available) or volume of each component.
  • When exporting the BoM from a CAD part model (in Gateways for NX, Teamcenter with NX, and Creo), the exported XML file will include the mass of each component if it is available from the CAD system. If the mass is not available for a component, the exported file will include the volume.
  • When exporting the BoM from a PLM system (in Gateway for Windchill), the exported XML file will include the volume for each component.
CSV (Comma-delimited)
The exported file is in CSV (comma-separated) format, and includes details of the component hierarchy and its material assignments, any process, surface treatment, and color assignments, and any part or body properties that have been configured to display as additional columns in the Assignments panel.
  • The first row of the file contains the column headers. All subsequent rows represent a component in the BoM, with its assignments.
  • If your system supports alternate assignments, only the primary assignments are included in the exported file.
  • The Parent and Type columns (which do not appear in the Assignments panel) show the immediate parent of the component, and its item type (assembly, part, or body). Together, the information in these two columns replicates the structure of the BoM hierarchy.
  • If you have assigned a CAE material model, the model type is included in the exported file in the Model type column. (Note that the Model type column only appears in the exported file if your Gateway installation has been configured to allow assignment of CAE material models.
  • The Process, Surface treatment and % coverage, and Color columns only appear in the exported file if your Gateway installation has been configured to support these types of assignment.

For each assignment (Material, Process, Surface treatment, or Color) the exported file also includes a Record GUID and Record Database Key that together provide a consistent, traceable link to the assigned record in your Granta MI database system.
