Run a synchronization job
When you have created a synchronization job, you can publish the records in two ways:
- Set up a schedule for automatic synchronization. This can be used for initial publication at a specified time, and to schedule regular updates.
- Publish or update the records immediately by clicking Synchronize now. This may be useful when configuring a test system.
When previously-published records are synchronized, the data in Granta MI takes priority over the data in Teamcenter. If any changes have been made to records in Teamcenter, these will be overwritten with the current Granta MI data.
After running a synchronization job, you can view the Logs tab to see an application log of runs, errors, and other events, or a sync action log file for the most recent synchronization.
About the Synchronize tab
When you are viewing (but not editing) a synchronization job, the Synchronize tab shows the options that are currently specified for synchronization, and you can click Synchronize now to update the records immediately.
When you are editing the synchronization job, you will see all the available options for synchronization. However, you cannot run the synchronization job until you save it, so you will not see the 'Synchronize now' button.
If
or
appears
next to its name in the left-hand panel, it is checked out for editing and
cannot be synchronized. For more details, see Create, edit, and manage synchronization jobs.
Schedule automatic synchronization
Automatic synchronization is specified as a recurring pattern over the course of a week. You can specify the days of the week on which you want synchronization to occur, and how frequently you want this pattern to recur - every week, or at intervals of 2 or more weeks.
- Ensure that the synchronization job is selected in the
left-hand panel, and click
Edit (if you are not already editing it). - View the Synchronize tab, and find the Schedule section.
- Select the Every ... weeks option, and use the controls to specify the schedule.
- Enter a date and time for the Start time. Note that these must be specified in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
- Specify the days of the week on which you want synchronization to occur. Automatic synchronization will occur on the first specified weekday after the starting date you specified, and at the time of day you specified.
- In the Every ... weeks box, enter a number to specify how frequently you want this pattern to recur.
- Click
Save at the top of the left-hand panel.
Cancel automatic synchronization

Publish or update records immediately using 'Synchronize now'
Ensure that the synchronization job is selected in the left-hand panel, and that it is not currently checked out for editing.
(marked by the symbol
or
).- View the Synchronize tab.
- Click Synchronize now.
Tip: If you cannot see the Synchronize now button, check that the synchronization job has been saved, and is not currently checked out for editing.
Run a synchronization job in dry run mode
If required, you can run a synchronization job in dry run mode. This allows you to preview its effects without making any changes in Teamcenter.
- When a synchronization job is run in dry run mode, the sync action log file records all changes that MI Enterprise Connect would attempt to make in Teamcenter, but the changes are not made in Teamcenter.
After running the synchronization job, you can go to the Logs tab and click
to download the sync action log file. When you are happy with the effects of the synchronization job, switch back to synchronization mode, and run the synchronization job again to make the changes in Teamcenter.
You can switch between dry run mode and synchronization mode using the MI Enterprise Connect Configuration Tool. For more details, see the Granta MI Enterprise Connect Installation and Configuration Guide.
