Creating a Face Selection
Create a face selection when you want to group multiple faces for convenient selection and processing. Creating a face selection is a convenient way to identify and select a specific set of surfaces for boundaries, excitations or mesh, and for field plots and calculations. The same face can be included in several different selections.
To create a face selection:
- Make sure that the modeler is in select face mode by pressing the F shortcut key.
- Select the faces you want to include in the face selection.
- From the menu bar, click Modeler > Named Selection > Create > Face Selection.
The face selection is created. It is listed in the History Tree under Named Selection. The default name is FaceSelectionn. The selections appear in alphanumeric order.
- Optionally, to change the name of a face selection
(for example, to a name describing the listed faces as ports or boundaries),
select its entry in the History Tree and change the Name value in the docked Properties window.
If necessary, the selections in the History Tree are resorted to restore the proper alphanumeric order.
For Maxwell 3D, the face selection will be treated as one group of surfaces that can be used for a boundary, excitation, mesh, or parameter setup. Note the following:
- Assigning or editing materials on named selections is not supported.
- Assignment on named selections is not supported for the following:
- Eddy effect
- Core loss calculations
- Harmonic force calculations
- Permeability Link
- Set Object Temperature/Deformation
- The following excitations are not allowed to be assigned to a named selection that contains multiple objects:
- Currents
- Voltages (Magnetic designs)
- Coil terminals
- Current density
- Current density terminals
- Voltage drops
The face selection will
- Line objects in the selection do not affect where the fields are saved. If all objects in the selection are lines, fields will be saved on all objects.
- For postprocessing on line objects, when saving fields on a object/face selection, include both the line and its containing object/face in the selection.
If you right-click an existing face selection and choose Select Assignment from the shortcut menu, you can execute the Move Faces geometry operations on the selection as a whole.
