Electronics Desktop IcepakFEA Systems in Workbench

The following details are specific to Ansys Electronics Desktop (AEDT) IcepakFEA systems within a Workbench schematic. These details apply Whether the system is newly created or is an existing AEDT IcepakFEA design that has been imported into the Workbench schematic:

• All IcepakFEA solution types are supported within a Workbench schematic (Modal, Steady-State Thermal, Transient Thermal, and Structural).
• Only Steady-State Thermal and Transient Thermal solution types are currently supported for linking Electronics Desktop IcepakFEA systems to other systems within the Workbench schematic.

Additionally, within the Workbench schematic, you can only link the Engineering Data, Geometry, and Solution (temperature results) from a thermal solution in Electronic Desktop IcepakFEA to a Static Structural or Transient Structural analysis system.

Any linking from one AEDT solution to another, aside from those described in the preceding paragraph, must be set up within the Electronics Desktop application, not the Workbench schematic. For example, mesh linking, importing convection film coefficients from Icepak, importing EM Losses from supported source solutions, or importing layout components for mesh mapping must be set up entirely within the AEDT application.

• Each AEDT project referenced within a Workbench schematic can only contain a single design.

Instead of attempting to link to a multi-design AEDT project, create multiple Electronics Desktop IcepakFEA systems within the Workbench schematic, each referencing a single-design AEDT model.

Use the same practice whether linking to another Ansys Electronics IcepakFEA design or to HFSS, Icepak, Maxwell 2D, Maxwell 3D, or Q3D designs.

• When you create a new Electronics Desktop IcepakFEA system by dragging it from the Workbench Toolbox, the following will occur when you right-click the Geometry cell and choose Edit:

The Ansys Electronics Desktop application will launch and a new project will be created having a blank IcepakFEA design already added to it.

• When you import an existing AEDT project, a copy of the design is created in a subfolder of the Workbench project location, preserving the original source design.
• After setting up and solving the Electronics Desktop IcepakFEA system and linking its solution to a Structural system setup, an Imported Body Temperature load will be automatically created and listed in the Structural solution branch of the Ansys Mechanical application. Edit the Structural setup to see this imported load.
