Sanitizing Layout

Sanitizing the layout is an operation for cleaning power and ground nets in order to fix certain alignment problems as well as complexities that may slow down simulation. It works by uniting the planes and traces for each net to be cleaned. Once the united planes are formed, portions that display trace-like properties are converted into traces. Under certain conditions, these traces are extended in order to improve their connection with vias, pads, and the remaining planes. Lattices originally formed from multiple traces become planes with cutouts after the sanitization process.

To sanitize the layout in the active project:

1. Click Tools.
2. From the Inspection Tools area, click Sanitize Layout... Alternatively, open the SIwave Workflow Wizard and click Sanitize Layout for Simulation to open the Sanitize Layout window with all power and ground nets selected.



3. You can add nets directly from this window.
• Reg Ex – use this field to type a regular expression and search for nets. Click Check Matching Nets to select matches, or click Uncheck Matching Nets to deselect matches.
• Check Matching Nets – click to select all matching nets.
• Uncheck Matching Nets – click to deselect all matching nets.
• Select Matching Nets – highlights matching nets.
• Check All Nets – click to select all nets.
• Uncheck All Nets – click to deselect all nets.
• Check Pwr/Gnd Nets – click to select power and ground nets only. This is the default selection.
  Note:

  Change Net Layer Selection and View Net Layer Selection are only active if a net is highlighted in the adjacent list. Click a net name in the list to select it, Ctrl+click to select more than one net, and/or click Select Matching Nets to highlight all matching nets.

• Change Net Layer Selection – click to open the Select Layers to Sanitize window. Select one or more layers from the list to sanitize the highlighted nets only on the selected layers. Click OK to close the window and save the selection.

  

• View Net Layer Selection – click to open a window that displays the layer(s) selected for sanitization, corresponding to the net highlighted on the Sanitize Layout window (e.g., A-MII-COL). Click OK to close the window.

  

4. Click Sanitize to run Sanitize Layout on the selected nets.
5. Click OK.
