Apply Curvilinear Elements Discussion

This Mesh Operation is a global surface approximation setting, and it is used to enable curvilinear elements for all true surfaces in the model. If you select this Mesh Operation command, higher order or curvilinear elements are used to represent the geometry. The midpoints of the surfaces of the tetrahedra are pulled to the true surface ensuring better representation of the geometry as illustrated in the following figures.

Default surface approximation settings with curvilinear elements yield accurate results in an efficient way. The application of curvilinear elements allows you to maintain a relatively low facetation and therefore save on computational resources.

Note:

Curvilinear elements can be used on FE-BI, IE Region and SBR+ surfaces.
