Materials and Surface Materials

Ansys Electronics Desktop provides two different system material libraries: Materials and Surface Materials. Materials in the Materials system library are bulk materials for assignment to 3D geometry (e.g., 3D geometry selected in object selection mode). Bulk materials are defined by volume-related properties such as thermal conductivity. Surface materials in the Surface Materials system library are for assignment to the surfaces of 2D or 3D geometry (for example, the face of 3D geometry selected in face selection mode). Surface materials properties are defined by surface-related properties such as surface roughness and surface emissivity.

The Materials system library can be viewed and edited in the Edit Libraries dialog accessed by clicking Tools>Edit Libraries>Materials.

The Surface Materials system library can be viewed and edited in the Edit Libraries dialog accessed by clicking Tools>Edit Libraries>Surface Materials.
