MPIE Method Implementation

To calculate the S-matrix associated with a structure, the Ansys Electronics Desktop (AEDT)^TM electronics systems design platform does the following:

• Divides the structure into a 2.5D or 3D surface mesh.
• Computes the currents on each port of the structure that are supported by a transmission line having the same cross-section as the port.
• Computes the full current distribution on the surface of the structure.
• Computes the generalized S-matrix on the amount of reflection and transmission that occurs.

The final result is an S-matrix that allows the magnitude of transmitted and reflected signals to be computed directly from a given set of input signals.
