Using the S2Q Utility

The S-Parameter to QLRX Conversion (S2Q) utility takes an S-parameter Touchstone file and generates the corresponding Quality, Inductance, Resistance, and Reactance (QLRX).

The Q factor indicates the amount of resistance to resonance in a system. Systems with a high Q factor resonate with larger amplitude at the resonant frequency.

The inductance, resistance, and reactance are calculated as follows:

L=X/(2.PI.freq)

Q=X/R

For single-ended computations, the effective reactance (X) and resistance (R) are calculated as:

R + jX = 1/Y11

R = Re(1/Y11)

X = Im(1/Y11)

To run the S2Q module from SUtility, select any input file containing only one or two ports. Then click Utilities > S2Q.

A text file is generated with the Q, L, R, and X parameter data. This file is loaded and plotted into the main SUtility window.
